Potential and Doodelydoo

Potential is something that is always ready to spring, prime, and take shape, usually a well-structured and, indeed, potentially revolutionary form. Doodelydoo, on the contrary, is an attitude, a playful way, a joyful and eclectic form, transversal, expressed with but ultimately indefinable in nothing but Doodelydoo. Despite contrasting, one could unexpectedly fuel the other. Similarly, Eva Franch i Gilabert and Mirko Borsche seemingly represent two totally opposite worlds. But not only, as they also incarnate two absolute outsiders in their respective industries, they are creative risk-takers. The former is a critical and theoretical thinker in the field of architecture and design, the latter a prolific maker in the realm of graphic design and style. Both, however, are free minds, united by a common sense of direct, impactful approach, and always open to humour.

Host: Andrea Lissoni

Andrea Lissoni is an Italian art historian and curator, currently serving as the artistic director at Haus der Kunst, Munich, as well as former curator at Hangar Bicocca, Milan, and senior curator, International Art (Film) at Tate Modern, London. His research concerns the expansion of images within the field of contemporary art and includes liveness, cinematic aspects in time-based artworks, the perception of time and forms of sharing. He explores these through trans-disciplinary approaches to exhibition-making, focusing on artistic contexts across non-dominant cultures and subcultures, among which music in particular.

Mirko Borsche

Mirko Borsche is a German typographer and graphic designer, founder of Bureau Borsche. Mirko is another unconventional figure in his field, exploring the unspoken potential of different worlds – ranging from publishing to fashion – with unexpectedly innovative trajectories and a pinch of humour. His Munich-based studio, one of the global leaders in its sector, is renowned for its hip, refreshing but rigorous international-Bavarian take on graphic design. Rooted in editorial design, the practice of Borsche has always been eager to explore the realms of contemporary art, fashion, street culture and beyond. This has led Bureau Borsche to conceive the identity of the Venice pavilion at the 2019 Biennale. Bureau Borsche’s portfolio includes the likes of Apple, Nike, Adidas, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, as well as football clubs Venezia FC and Internazionale Milano.

Eva Franch I Gilabert

Eva Franch i Gilabert is a Spanish architect, curator, and educator operating across the realms of architecture, art, politics and pedagogy. Eva instils a critical and theoretical approach into the field of architecture, which contributes to equally exploring the industry’s potential and creativity under a social and political perspective. This has established her as an internationally-recognised prominent figure in the field of curatorial activism, alternative pedagogies and planetary practices. Willing to challenge the boundaries of her industry, in 2018 her pioneering attitude led her to the appointment as the first female director of the AA Architectural Association School of Architecture, London. She currently serves as the Head of Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague.
